A Rice Tasting Workshop was held to let residents learn more about the nutritional values of organic rice and the social and environmental impacts of organic farming in a local context. It was hoped that through such event students could gain insight in maintaining a healthy diet and cultivating a sustainable lifestyle. An filmed interview with a local organic grocery store owner was shown and followed by a short presentation about the nutritional facts of organic rice and the merits of organic rice farming delivered by students who undertook research in such area.
Participants tried a variety of dishes made of different kinds of organic rice, such as red rice, black rice, brown rice and the eco rice harvested from Long Valley by residents of our block earlier this year. They all liked the natural tastes of organic rice and supported the idea of responsible and healthy consumption of organic food.
