New College practices what we preach! We aim to provide an active learning platform for students to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to become responsible global citizens through experimental learning, cultural exchange and participation in community service. New College is not just a residential home during your time at HKU, but is a living laboratory.
We all love food and that’s why New College practices ECO-Farming at the College Podium with an Eco-garden built by our students. Outside the College, students have also planted and harvested rice in Long Valley, the largest freshwater agricultural wetland remaining in Hong Kong. The rice was planted as an eco-friendly way to also benefit the wildlife and ecosystem.
Food workshops are organised regularly to teach students about environmentally friendly and locally produced products in Hong Kong. To give back to our local community, student teams regularly organise elderly visits in the neighbourhood as part of community service.
