With a tropical climate, Hong Kong is a paradise for insect lovers. We have over 250 butterfly; 115 dragonfly; 2,300 moth and 120 long-horned beetle species. These are just part of the estimated 10,000 plus insect species in Hong Kong, many of which are newly discovered in the world. Butterflies and dragonflies are two of the best known groups of insect in Hong Kong. They are also the only two insect groups used in environmental impact assessment in Hong Kong. Their presences and well beings reflect the quality of the environment. The field study location, Hok Tau Reservoir is one of the ecological hot spots in Hong Kong. The streams, fung shui woods, secondary forests, shrublands as well as the marshes provide diversified habitats for insects and invertebrates
