The Photography 101 Workshop, hosted by the New College Photography Team, was held on November 9th! This event brought together photography enthusiasts of all skill levels for an evening of learning, sharing, and creativity.

The workshop featured three insightful topics that aimed to enhance participants' photography skills:
Composition Techniques
Participants learned the art of composition, which is crucial for capturing striking photographs. This session covered fundamental principles such as the Rule of Thirds, leading lines, framing, and balance. Attendees practiced these techniques by analyzing famous photographs, understanding how compositional choices affect the overall impact of an image. This knowledge empowered them to create more visually appealing compositions in their own work.
Basic Logic of Photography
This segment introduced the essential concepts that underlie good photography. Participants explored the exposure triangle—aperture, shutter speed, and ISO—and how these elements work together to achieve the desired exposure. The session emphasized understanding light and how it influences a photograph, equipping attendees with the foundational knowledge needed to make informed decisions while shooting.
Introduction to Post-Processing
In the digital age, post-processing is an invaluable skill for photographers. This session provided an overview of basic editing techniques using popular software. Participants learned how to adjust exposure, contrast, color balance, and cropping to enhance their images. The introduction to post-processing opened up new possibilities for attendees, allowing them to transform their raw photos into polished, professional-looking images.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the Photo Discussion Session. Participants showcased their work, applying the techniques they had learned throughout the evening. By discussing each other’s photographs, they received constructive feedback and gained insights into areas for improvement. This collaborative environment fostered a sense of community among attendees.
The best photos from the discussion session were awarded a set of postcards and souvenirs, encouraging participants to continue honing their craft.
