HKU Traditions

At HKU, traditions are everything. One of the most important tradition for all the residential halls and Colleges at HKU is the High Table Dinner. This monthly event is one of the few times residents get to meet almost everyone from the College. There is a guest speaker at each High Table Dinner and students usually take this opportunity to learn from and network with experts and leader from the academic sector as well as the commercial ones. We also encourage students to organise their own activities and take responsibility for them. These include orientation programmes, sports competitions, a co-op set up to allow residents to shop for snacks, and a number of networking, social and cultural activities to build a caring and active community at the College. Take a look at some of the albums of our past activities.

High Table Dinners

A high table dinner is a traditional event at HKU and it is no exception at New College. For every dinner, we invite an important member of the community to attend and impart onto us his or her knowledge and experience in various fields. It is also during these dinners where our residents mingle and network not only with each other but also our guests.

Orientation Programmes

To assist non-local students to settle down at New College and HKU and to allow more students in New College to get to know each other, non-local orientation is held every semesters for new comers – “Survival Cantonese” is one of the most love programmes, serving with local snacks and drinks!
